For our Rhinooplasty Surgery, our patients need to comply specific criteria our medical team will share with them. However, in general candidates for any of our cosmetic surgeries at Angeles Hospital Tijuana, most comply the following:

  • Patients with good health (BMI of 27).
  • Patients who don’t suffer from any of the following high-risk conditions: Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Bleeding disorders, Heart diseases or diagnosed Depression.

*If you are diagnosed with obesity or smoke and drink alcohol regularly, you can’t be a candidate for our Cosmetic Surgeries.

Our Rhinoplasty Surgery is performed under local or IV anesthesia, in our outpatient’s facilities. The duration of the procedure depends on what type of work the patient requested. Generally, all nose job surgeries require the separation of the skin from the bone and cartilage, to give it the shape the patient requested. The amount of sculpting and changes the surgeons perform, also depends on the patient’s decision.

Once the sculpting is complete, our surgeons reattached the skin to the new framework and close the incisions made. For this procedure, we can use two different techniques:

  • Closed procedure: incisions are hidden inside the nose. The closed technique tends to be used for more minor restructuring.
  • Open procedure: incisions is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. An open nose job tends to be used more in instances where significant reshaping of the nose is necessary.

In either technique, these basic incisions are used to raise the soft tissues that cover the nose, allowing access to the structure of the nose.

For patients asking for a Rhinoplasty surgery for a deviated septum, our procedure alters the nasal structures using cartilage from other areas of the body. The most common are: the septum, ear or rib.

Our surgeons will be straightened the septum and any other conditions inside the nose are reduced to improve the patients breathing. Once the underlying structure of the nose is sculpted to the desired shape if the patients asked for it, the nasal skin and tissue are reattached and incisions are closed.

If the nostrils require alteration, additional incisions or sutures may be placed in the natural creases of the nostrils. An external splint is often used to support the nose. Splints and internal tubes may be installed in the nasal cavity to maintain the structure of the nose, and there may be nasal packing to deal with the bleeding.

After a Rhinoplasty Surgery at Angeles Hospital, our patients will experience the following:

24 hours after surgery

  • Patients may be unable to breath their nose.
  • Swelling.
  • Some bleeding.

48 hours after surgery

  • Pain (medication will be prescribed).
  • Nausea.

Splints/Packing

  • For a normal rhinoplasty: 3 days.
  • For patients with a fractured nose: 10 days. And tape for: 3 weeks.

In addition, patients have to follow these instructions:

  • Blowing your nose is not allowed after Rhinoplasty.
  • If you feel stuffy, you may have to use decongestants.
  • A black eye (or even two) is not an unusual occurrence as the swelling and bruising subsides.

7 to 10 days after surgery

  • Bruising.
  • Swelling.
  • Return to work.
  • No sun exposure or impact in the nose.

2 – 3 weeks after surgery

  • Heavy lifting.

6 weeks after surgery

  • Exercise.
  • Glasses must be propped on your cheeks.
