Integrative Assessment
Holistic Assessment for the Functional Oncology Treatment
Our first step in the Functional Oncology Protocol at Angeles Tijuana, is: Integrative assessment. For our medical team is a key step in our functional process to understand the patient and their type of cancer. Remember, the center of our protocol is: the patients individuality.
We have a saying at our Cancer Clinic in Angeles Hospital Tijuana: “No patient is the same”. Traditional treatments for cancer, use the same protocol for all patients and types of cancer, leaving a very important factor outside: individuality.

Patient Testimonial
Breast Cancer Survivor Testimonial – Sherlyn Nocwiki
Sherlyn Nocwiki is a 52-year-old cancer free patient from Canada, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She shares how the moment they told her, was the most frightening moment of her life. After she researched cancer treatments and realized all the negative the side-effects traditional cancer treatments have and their secondary effects, her fear only grew and became more real.
She like most patients, in the US and Canada had to choose from different treatment options in her country and abroad. With the help of her primary care doctor in Canada and a six hour call with Dr. Perez, she decided for a 12 day treatment at our Cancer Clinic.
Sheryl shares how she visited another cancer clinic in Tijuana, before arriving at our facilities. The experience was terrible and she felt uncomfortable, the complete opposite of how she felt when she walked in to Angeles Hospital for the first time. She tells us our premises are up to US standards and the medical staff made her feel at home. Sheryl gets emotional when talking about how good the personalized attention of Dr. Perez and the entire medical team was.

Integrative Assessment
How do you create an Integrative Assessment?
Our medical team, uses five areas related to the etiology of cancer to create an integrative assessment of the patient’s health: Genetics, Nutrition, Xenobiosis or Toxicity, Chronic Inflammation and Psychology.
In addition, our integrative assesment represents the importance of having a multidisciplinary team to treat such a complicated disease. Having multiple opinions on the same subject, helps us get a better understanding of the patients situation.

Integrative medicine is a healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative.
Integrative assessment happens in the first 3 to 4 days of the patient’s arrival:
- Medical appointments with assigned medical team.
- Medical tests: imaging studies to lab-work.
The evaluation is done through the assigned functional team and can be extended or modified to any situation or need of the patient.
*We do not repeat tests, we will only perform the one does our patient doesn’t have and the one which lost clinical value.
The evaluations use for our Integrative Assesment, gives specific information about the systems and organs that are not affected and the ones that have the overload.
With the correct analysis, our medical team can determine the patient’s specific needs, the interventions needed as a preventive measure, possible complications that may appear and the prevention or management of other pathologies.
This allows our functional team to designed the personalized plan they need to maintain the balance if they have it or establish a proper intervention for those who do not.
