After bariatric surgery at Angeles Health earlier this year one of our patients, Kara-Lynn, wrote the following letter to us:
“I chose Dr. Corvalla and his team after doing extensive research over three years. Dr. Corvalla not only had the most experience with Bariatric surgery but the most satisfaction among his patients. I not only researched his sites and the Hospital he practices in but I also spoke with people on blogs and support groups that had no connection to the Hospital or Dr. Corvalla.

I was impressed from the first time I spoke with the RN Coordinator Sandy Lauria as she knew much about the various procedures. I was also impressed that after Dr. Corvalla reviewed my medical records he would not approve me for the original medical procedure of Gastric Plication due to my severe GERD and acid reflux. The reasoning was that the procedure may cause my reflux to worsen. Wow!

Sandy then presented me with recommendations from Dr. Corvalla, one of which included Gastric Bypass. This was a procedure I was not currently considering. I was asked by Sandy to research this procedure further and think about the options carefully. There was no pressure at any time to book and I was able to communicate with Sandy and ask questions that would inform my decision.

I spent several weeks considering Gastric Bypass and I decided to go forward.

The paperwork was very professional and easy. The arrangements were made and it felt like a milestone in my life. It was like I was finally doing something good for myself.

I flew to San Diego where I was going to be met and taken to the hospital. I decided to overnight in a hotel and go out first thing in the morning. The afternoon prior to my surgery, Esmeralda, the Patient Coordinator from the hospital, called to confirm the details of the pick-up time and what to expect.

I was met at my hotel and transported to Hospital Angeles. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Esmeralda who explained the next steps which included blood tests, a chest x-ray and a meeting with the Psychologist. While waiting for my x-ray, Dr. Coravalla and his team came to greet me. He explained what would take place that day and afterwards. I was again very impressed. Dr. Corvalla is not only a great surgeon but he has a great bedside manner which is rare in my experience.

The surgery was a success and I was taken to my room after recovery. It was a private room with a couch, chair, TV, cupboards and private on-suite bathroom. It was very modern, comfortable and pleasant.

The nurses were great and I always felt safe and well cared for. The Nurses took my temperature and blood pressure frequently throughout my stay. I would like to say a special thanks to all the nurses who took care of me but especially Nurse Irene. She has a special talent. She was always efficient and empathetic and I appreciated that care very much.

About two days in I guess I had a fever and it was late in the evening on a Sunday night. The nurses were very on top of it and I received medication with a few minutes. Within one-hour my fever was gone and I was up watching TV in the Chair. A Doctor who was part of Dr. Corvalla’s team arrived to ensure that I was doing OK and Dr. Corvalla phoned to see how I was doing. I very much appreciated this and it gave me peace of mind.

Everyday Dr. Corvalla came to visit me to see how I was doing and answer any questions I had.

Upon discharge I was given a prescription that I filled and took home and I was given instructions post-op for the next six weeks including diet and general care.

After returning home I had some questions and a Doctor phoned me from Dr. Corvalla’s office to answer them.

In closing, I cannot say enough about Dr. Corvalla and his team. They are very capable, empathetic and caring Doctors. From the moment I booked, through the surgery and my stay at Hospital Angeles to the after care, I knew I was in good hands.

I offer Dr. Corvalla, Dr. Corvalla’s Team of Doctors, Sandy, Irene and the nurses at the hospital, Esmeralda and everyone who took such good care of me a heartfelt thank you. The service and care was impeccable.

I am two weeks post-op and starting to feel good. Plus, I am down 13 pounds!!
