I am writing on behalf of myself and my husband, Duane David Walker. Duane had open heart surgery at Hospital Angeles Tijuana on March 3, 2009 and in brief, is doing marvelously well since his surgery. I want to tell you how pleased we both are with the program you have through WorldMed Assist. We located WorldMed Assist through the internet in February.
Duane’s doctor in New York had recommended an angiogram to determine how severely occluded his arteries were. Duane was scheduled for an angiogram and angioplasty at Hospital Angeles in late February.
During the angioplasty attempt, it was discovered that a complete angioplasty was not possible, and Doctor Luna recommended a full bypass procedure be done. Since Dr. Luna said the surgery wasn’t an emergency, although he should not delay it for long. Duane returned to the U.S. to consider what to do next.
Within the following week, we scheduled the bypass surgery, returning to Hospital Angeles on March 3rd. His surgery was completed the same day, and he spent the next three days in the Intensive Care Unit.
Once out of the ICU, he was put in a room where I could be with him for the rest of his hospitalization. A week after surgery, he was discharged to a local hotel where he stayed an additional week. The Hotel was close to the hospital in case something urgent came up, and was equipped with everything we needed during the week we stayed there.
On March 17, stitches were removed, and both Duane’s chest and leg incisions were inspected by Doctor Luna, and the surgeon, Dr. Rocio Jiminez Godinez (Doctor Alma Jimenez). He was pronounced well enough to travel by plane to return to San Antonio.
We have nothing but good things to say about the people who helped Wayne during this week of intense medical care. The doctors, Doctor Luna and Doctor Jiminez, made themselves available to both of us on a daily basis to answer any questions and to ensure that Duane’s progress was good.
Duane had been assigned a male nurse while in the operating room, Mario Alberto, who stayed with him during the entire week of hospitalization — from surgery to the recovery room, through his stay in the ICU, and in the general hospital room. Mario was wonderful and was patient, respectful and knowledgeable about Duane’s condition at all times.
Duane had several nurses that took special attention to make him comfortable and help him through the healing process — I wish we knew all their names as they should all be commended for their abilities and compassionate patient care. He was given respiratory therapy by at least 3 different therapists, all of whom were very positive and helpful in their treatment.
Patient coordinator, Paulina Hamilton, contacted us daily at the hospital and at the hotel to make sure that everything was done to our satisfaction, and when there was anything she could do to make our stay pleasant, she took care of it.
All in all your program is one we would highly recommend to anyone considering cardiac medical care in Mexico. We found our accommodations at the Hotel to be very comfortable. The food available in the restaurants at the Hotel was astounding in quantity, quality and cost. Room service and Maid service was excellent as well.
We are truly grateful to have come through this journey with such good success, and we can attribute it fully to the wonderful care given by the excellent doctors at the Hospital Angeles, the nursing staff, and the care and consideration given to us as patient and family member.
Coming from the United States, I also want to mention how easy it was to communicate with almost all persons on your staff. Most spoke some degree of English, and with our limited knowledge of Spanish, we were able to make our needs known, and to understand the information that was being given to us.
I also want to mention the beautiful facility — we were not prepared to encounter the beautiful and immaculately clean facility that you have, but were so pleased to find it so. Thank you so much for everything. Duane continues to recover at a remarkable pace — he is taking daily walks, and feels very well.

Are you at risk for heart disease? If you are seriously overweight, the answer is yes. The US Preventative Services Task Force reports that the prevalence of obesity (a person with a Body Mass Index of 30 or higher) in the US has increased to one in 3 adults.
Excess weight increases the heart's work. It also raises blood pressure and blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and lowers HDL ("good") cholesterol levels.
Losing weight can have a significant impact on reducing your risk for heart disease. If you are struggling to lose weight, please evaluate our innovative Weight Loss Surgery Program for Medical Travelers. We have helped thousands of Americans reclaim healthy lives.
