Rotator Cuff Surgery

When someone suffers a rotator cuff injury they may need to have an operation.

Rotator cuff repair surgery is performed under general anaesthesia.

There are two different operations that can repair a rotator cuff injury: Open surgery and shoulder arthroscopy. The type of operation you have depends on injury location, shape and size and whether or not it is a tear.

In open surgery your surgeon makes an incision into your skin over your shoulder and repairs your injury through this incision. During an athroscopy an arthroscope, which is a small, flexible, tube-like telescopic camera, is inserted through a small cut in your shoulder and this is used to repair your injury. It's also known as keyhole surgery.
