Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation is one of the five most popular cosmetic procedures. The
number of women receiving breast implants has increased every year for the
last ten years. Breast augmentation can enhance the fullness, shape and
symmetry of a woman’s breasts, improving the balance of a woman’s figure and
increasing her self-confidence. It can also be used to reconstruct the
breast area after a mastectomy. It is often used to restore fullness by
women whose breasts have been affected by pregnancy or significant weight
loss. The procedure involves inserting a fluid-filled implant either beneath
the chest wall muscle or behind the existing breast tissue.
Implants come in two basic varieties – a rubber-silicone sack filled with
silicone gel (silicone implants) or a rubber-silicone sack filled with
saline (saline implants). Breast Augmentation has a long history, and while
implants have had some problems, surgical procedures and implant technology
have improved dramatically in recent years. Breast implant surgery is now
less invasive, has more options and yields better post-surgical results.
Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Miguel Parra performs all types of Breast
Augmentation-round or anatomical, saline or silicone. Implants come in a
variety of shapes and sizes, and you and your surgeon will work together to
choose the right implant to get the size and silhouette you desire. Implant
brands used include Mentor, Allergen, Silimed and Sivine. There are number
of different ways that the implant may be inserted. At Hospital Angeles
Tijuana, preferred methods of placement are either cutting around the edge
of the nipple or in the breast crease, because these options result in
little to no scarring.
