My Story: How LAP-Band Surgery Has Given Me a Second Chance at Life

I have been overweight all my life, but it was while on vacation to Thailand that I finally reached a turning point. I wanted to try skydiving, but the instructor said I was too heavy for the equipment. I was over 300 lbs at the time, and I'd become increasingly frustrated by the limitations my weight was putting on my life. I began researching weight loss surgery options. I had recently been laid off, and had no medical insurance, and couldn't afford the surgery in the U.S. My research kept turning up glowing mentions of Dr. Lopez Corvala and Hospital Angeles, and I began to think surgery in Mexico was a viable option. I was lucky to work with a great Case Manager right here at Angeles Health; she helped educate me on the medical travel process and provided me with all the information I needed to know I was making a good decision.

I researched several options but in the end chose to schedule my LAP-BAND® surgery with Dr. Lopez Corvala, and I credit him and his team with saving my life. Since my surgery five months ago, I have lost 115 pounds! I have no more high blood pressure and my diabetes is gone. I can't say enough about the medical team and the hospital, which I compare to a 5-star hotel. I received quality, compassionate care in a spotless, beautiful facility. I could not have asked for a better place to have surgery, and I would 100% recommend Dr. Lopez Corvala and his team at Hospital Angeles Tijuana.

I wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I have appreciated one of your agents, Jeff Linville. I was very anxious about making an appointment in Tijuana for a LAP-BAND surgery and had researched several different places.

Jeff was so patient with me and answered all of my questions with such professionalism. We've spoken on the phone numerous times and Jeff really went the distance for me. He not only helped assure me of the safety of the doctor, but also the hospital and being in Tijuana. My experience with Angeles Hospitals in Tijuana was amazing! The surgeon was very warm and caring and he did a fantastic job. The hospital room was very nice and clean. All of the staff was wonderful - professional, kind and respectful. The price was very reasonable. My coordinator was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and set up the entire trip quickly. I am so glad I had the surgery. I know several people who had the same surgery in the US and had to jump through all sorts of crazy hoops with their insurance companies. In addition, most American surgeons send their patients home the SAME DAY as surgery! I was in the hospital for two nights after the surgery with 'round-the-clock nursing care. I am so glad I chose to self-pay and have my surgery at Angeles Hospital! Amanda W.
