About Dr. Alger Aquino
Dr. Aquino is a graduate of Autonomous University of Baja California, Mexico. Residencies
and Fellowships include:
- ASTS certified Liver/Kidney Fellowship at NYU Medical Center in New York
- Research/Organ Procurement at University of California, San Diego
- ASTS certified Kidney Pancreas/Transplant Fellowship at University of Southern California/St.
Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles
- General Surgery Residency at Institute of Social Security in Mexico City
- Rotational Internship in General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine,
Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics and Family Practice at Institute of Social Security
in Mexico City.
During his training, Dr. Aquino did approximately 200 kidney transplants as the
primary surgeon. He did 100 liver transplants and was the primary surgeon for 77
(to be certified for liver transplants by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons
a physician must be the primary surgeon in 45 liver transplants).
Volunteer experience includes research at the University of California San Diego
and work at the National Institute of Transplantation.
Dr. Aquino has previously worked as a Trauma Physician and as a General and Kidney
Transplant Surgeon at Ensenada General Hospital.
He is a frequent writer and presenter on the topic of Transplant Surgery. He is
currently a staff member at Hospital Angeles, Tijuana
